I'm on vacation in Ireland for the next few weeks! I'm pretty excited! I may or may not be able to update my blog while I'm gone. If I can't, don't think that I've deserted!

Ok, so this is kinda exciting! I've seen commercials lately for "She's Got the Look" which will be on TV Land next week! It's apparently a sort of "America's Next Top Model" for women over 35! It looks promising. I can't wait!!

Nostalgia

Last night we said goodbye to my grandparents' house.  With all the kids grown, Pop-pop doesn't need a house that big, but still... it was weird seeing it so empty.  The way I saw this house reminded me of the scenes in "Titanic" where the old Rose sees the dilapidated ship but it morphs into what she remembered... Mom-mom's flowers in the front yard, the gigantic dining room table and Pop-pop's desk against the wall of the office. Plus--it's where we filmed the original "The Girl with the Dirty Feet!" We toured the empty house and told stories. I'm glad that I got to see it before it sold, but I cried a little. It's so weird. Things are changing and I don't like it. Growing up stinks.

We the People...

I've been in downtown Philadelphia about a million and a half times.  This trip, I decided that it would be fun to do all the history stuff again. We ventured into Center City and it was a blast! We went to the Firefighter's Museum, Elfreth's Alley, the Constitution Center, Liberty Bell and Independence Hall before stopping for a cheesesteak for lunch. We were such tourists, it was fantastic!

The National Constitution Center opened in 2003 and today was the first day that I went. I loved it! The performance was so good. I teared up a little, I must admit. Historical sites bring out my super-patriotic side! I am so grateful for the brave and inspired men who wrote and signed the Declaration of Independence. I am grateful for the Constitution and the brilliant leaders who contributed. I am grateful for my country and the many opportunities that it has afforded me and I cannot wait until I am able to give in return! 

My Newest Obsession

I was quite bored in the airport Sunday night and decided to pick up some magazines.  With Nicole Richie on the cover, Harper's Bazaar was an obvious choice. At the check-out, I came across Domino: The Guide to Living with Style and oh it is fabulous! With features such as "Top 10 Secrets of a Well-Run Home" and "Happy Colors," Domino is my newest obsession!

G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S

I would never buy a Bentley. Bentleys are hott cars, I'm not saying they're not. I suppose if someone were to hand me a Bentley, I might drive it. I would never buy one because buying a Bentley automatically makes you a person who bought a Bentley... and people who buy them are douchebags. Even more of a douchbag than the owner is the owner's son.
After work the other night I met up with a friend for pizza and pizzookie at our favorite restaurant. As I was driving, I pulled up to a stop light where there was a Bentley about a car's length in front of me on the right and a beat up Honda Civic the same distance on the left. I could see both drivers. In the Bentley, a not horribly unattractive man in his mid-20s. In the Civic, a cute little blonde about the same age. I watched the guy in the Bentley as he turned up his music louder and louder trying to get the blonde's attention. She wasn't interested. The light turned green and we all drove on. By the next stop light, the blonde was gone and it was just me and Mr. Bentley. Once again... the music. I looked at him and he gave me a nod. I half-smiled/half-grimaced and then pretended to be looking at my phone. The light turned green and I zoomed away.
As I told my mom about this, we laughed and both came to the same conclusion... he was probably the valet!

Congrats!!

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz got married this weekend! They're so cute! That baby they're expecting is going to be adorable!

...oh wait! I almost forgot that's not her real nose! In that case... yikes!

Happily Ever After

This week I have gotten 3... yes... 3 requests for my address via Facebook from friends who are getting married this summer. That doesn't count the friends that have already gotten married this summer or the ones too cheap to send invitations to their friends. Is there something in the water that I'm missing because I only drink bottled?

Baby Little J?

I was babysitting yesterday and the little boy wanted to watch a movie. He picked out "The Grinch" (the one with Jim Carey). Then I noticed this...

Is that you, Little J? Crazy to think that movie is that old... but then as I was looking for pictures, I read that she's not even 15 yet!

Silly Tyra

Dear Tyra,
I watch your show almost every day. It’s great! The other day, however, I was disturbed by the topic: “5 Ways to Win Him Back!” First—the entire crowd was female. There were no male perspectives! Second—if they broke up in the first place, it is probably not a healthy relationship. One girl was especially insecure because her ex-boyfriend looked at women walking down the street and compared her to them. You gave her a makeover. My friend Greg would tell her that if the boyfriend is checking out other women and commenting on her appearance, he’s just not that into her. If she is insecure, that is something that she needs to work on for herself—not her boyfriend.

Also, you praised this comment from the crowd: “A few years ago, I noticed that my boyfriend wasn’t appreciating me anymore. I decided that I wanted a little mini-makeover. I cut my hair and changed my clothes and then he started to appreciate me again.” Do you know what that tells women? That tells me that I need to change myself in order to be appreciated. I don’t believe that Tyra, do you?

You may think that you are helping women with this discussion topic, but you’re really not. Women need blunt honesty. We need to hear the things that we already know but are choosing to ignore. Please meet my friend Greg. He makes it simple—sometimes, he’s just not that into you.
