List Eleven

Four Things I've Learned This Week:

  1. If you drip iron drops on a shirt, don't soak it in oxyclean. (duh... oxidizing=rust=bigger stain)
  2. If you do create a giant rust stain on your child's shirt, it can come out with a paste made of vinegar and salt... followed by paste made of lemon juice and salt... followed by heat (I used a hair dryer)... followed by pouring boiling water through the stain.  It's not totally gone yet, but it's mostly gone and I'm hopeful that if I do it again, it will be gone.  I know... it seemed like a strange chain of events.  I was skeptical.
  3. A walker may seem like a safe place for your child to play in the bathroom while you're in the shower, but it's not.  I made sure that G wasn't close enough to reach anything in the bathroom.  I looked at him about every 30 seconds.  As I was putting conditioner in my hair, I heard a thud and a whimper.  G climbed out of the walker and was laying on the floor.  I don't even know how that happened.  I may have to watch him tomorrow to see if he will do it again (without falling).  I just have no idea how that happened.
  4. Ringer (with Sarah Michelle Gellar-Prinze--it's on CW) is actually really good.  The pilot is online... go watch it!

Fat Kid Moment

So, I was on Pinterest and started to get hungry.  Then I saw this:

I've seen it before and may have even re-pinned it.  Well, I decided to make it because I figured it was healthier for me to make a little and pig out on cookie dough than it is for me to pig out on cookie dough and eat two dozen cookies over the next 3 days.  Well, it was delicious (not quite regular cookie dough, but pretty darn close).  I doubled the recipe... don't do that.  A single serving would have been plenty, I'm sure.
  • dash of vanilla extract
  • 1 T water
  • 3 T flour
  • 1 T white sugar
  • 1 T brown sugar
  • 1.5 T room-temp butter
  • chocolate chips to taste

Help!

Dear Friends,

George has 4 (soon to be 6) teeth.  Biting has never really been a problem... until this week.

So... what can I do to make him stop biting me?  So far, what I'm doing is just ending his nursing when he bites me (whether he's been nursing for 1 minute or 10--he's done).  This also means that I'm nursing about every hour...

Sunday was the worst nursing day of our lives... and tonight wasn't so hot, either.  He's about 2 more days like that away from tasting formula for the first time since the first day of his life... (even then, he was on a feeding tube, so I don't think he actually tasted it).  And he doesn't know how to eat from a bottle anymore.. so that's a problem, too.  HELP!

Love,

K

List Ten

So, I'm not doing so well with this list thing, huh?  Honestly, I ran out of ideas for a little bit.  Here's a new one!

Three Reasons I'm Excited for Thursday Night Television:

1.  Andy Dwyer

2.  Ron Swanson

3.  Tom Haveford!

So, basically... if you aren't watching Parks & Recreation, you're really missing out.

Creepy?

So, the blog roll on the side is mostly for me.  It's genius:  I get to see when people update their blogs so that I don't have to waste time checking each one individually.  Obviously, this leaves me time to waste on more important things like cleaning and folding laundry Pinterest and Facebook.  Whatevs.

Anyway... any time I see that someone I sort-of know has a blog, I add it to this roll.  I feel creepier adding some people than others.  So, here's my question:  is it creepy if I'm adding people that I sort-of know, but don't really?  I mean, I will read anyone's blog... but is it creepy if they know that I read it?  Or is it creepier if they don't know?  I don't know... I guess blogs leave people open to creepy people like me, right?  I guarantee that there are creepier people than me out there.

Whatever the verdict is on this one, my behavior probably isn't going to change... I just want to be validated.

Pinspired!

I love Pinterest! Maybe a little too much. Anyway, last night in a pinning frenzy, I found this picture:

Super-cute, right?? Well, I went to JoAnn's tonight because I've been wanting to make an upholstered headboard for our bed. That was a waste of time because I just couldn't find a fabric that I liked (and I forgot to take my pillow case). So I was just browsing and looked at the canvases. Little known fact: I like to paint every once in a while. Well, canvases are waaaaaaay too expensive at JoAnn's, so I went to Michael's (seriously--buy them at Michael's and if you hit it on a sale day, you'll save big bucks!) Well, canvases were super on sale and I got two 16"x20" canvases for $5.99! I didn't know what I wanted to do with them, but I just couldn't pass up that price! We've been needing something for our bedroom, and on the way home, I remembered the picture above. Well, we're a long way from being able to paint a wall like that without losing our security deposit... but I wondered how it would look on a canvas. Also, the song "When there's Love at Home" came into my mind.

I came home, bathed G, put him to bed and got out my paints (I happen to have paints that match our bedding because I've unsuccessfully tried to make artwork for that wall once before). This is what I came up with and I really like it. I can hardly wait to hang it on the wall along with some family pictures and a few other ideas that I have...

It's not perfect. Don't read it too closely or you will see that I skipped from verse 1 to verse 3... oh, and it ends with a cliffhanger. But really, once it's hanging on the wall, who will be able to tell?? The "LOVE" looks red, but it's really a reddish pink. Most importantly, it was fun... and it's something unique to hang on our bedroom wall. I can't wait to get everything up there! (Just in time to move, I'm sure...)

My Fast Baby!

George has officially been crawling for 2 weeks and he is getting fast! Today, I looked something up on the computer for about 10 seconds and then I was like, "where did he go??" Our living room isn't very big, but sitting on the couch, I couldn't see him! I looked over by the door and he wasn't there, either... and then I heard a whimper from under the table...

Boy, am I in trouble! He was under the table, getting into the diaper bag!

I'm Kinda a Chef...

Steve & I got caprese ravioli at Costco today. It looks really good and I can't wait to try them, but I wanted to make a garlic sauce to go with it. Having zero experience with making a garlic sauce, I decided to try a garlic sauce with spaghetti tonight so that I can practice before I make the yummy ravioli. So I made a garlic butter sauce tonight and it was delish. I adapted it from some recipe that I got from googling.
  • 1/4 c. olive oil
  • 4 cloves minced garlic (I always keep a jar of pre-minced garlic in the fridge.. it was about 2 tsp. of that)
  • 1 tsp. butter
  • 1/2 tsp. Italian dressing mix
  • Black pepper to taste
I sauteed the olive oil, garlic & butter on med. heat. Then I turned it to low heat and put in the Italian dressing mix and black pepper and let it simmer while my pasta was cooking. I mixed it with the pasta and topped it was parmesan. It was really garlic-y.... but I love garlic.

Free Stuff!

Hey, friends! I just wanted to pass along a great offer that I got in my email! Free nursing covers and slings!! All you pay is S&H (I know that for the slings, it's about $12 or $15 or something like that and I don't know what it is for the nursing covers). I don't mean to sound all commercially... I just want to help out all you other mommas!

I actually have both of these! The nursing cover has been one of my most-used baby items! Order the sling one size up from your pre-pregnancy size in case (like me) you don't lose the weight as quickly as you would have hoped...

Put it in your shopping cart and then use the promo code "DESTINATION" to get the discount!

25!

I had a birthday and it was a big one. I'm getting so old! I really don't feel that old, though!

I had a great day! Steve made breakfast and then we opened presents! We went to In-n-Out for lunch and just lounged for a few hours. Steve & I went to the temple and then after, we had cake! Steve made the cake! Who knew he was such a good baker?? The best thing about my birthday? I got to spend the entire day with my boys! This doesn't happen very often (maybe once a week), so this was a big treat! 25 has been good to me so far... but I really don't like this getting older thing!

Another Titanic Post...

I know that we have talked about Titanic before. It's on tv again tonight. I wish I knew earlier... I always catch the same part! It starts just after Jack draws Rose. I still usually watch the whole second half!

How do I get my husband to watch this movie?? He refuses... seriously downright refuses. Weird, because he loves history and I can usually get him to watch chick flicks. For some reason, he has vowed to never see Titanic and it's really frustrating!

When I was 11, I loved this movie because I loved Leo. My friends and I went to see it in the movie theater a million times! Now, I watch it because it's such a great movie! I wish Steve would break his 14 year commitment and watch this movie with me... any ideas??
