A Letter. And Some Thoughts.

Dear Herbal Essences,

Your shampoo bottle reminds me of.... conception.  I'm not sure what kind of message you're trying to send... but it's a little weird.

(Only it reminds me of something like the conception scene in "Look Who's Talking..." where all the little spermies are racing and "whoo-hoo!"-ing and something like "Surfin' USA" is playing in the background.  I couldn't find video of it, but you get the idea.)

(Also, it made me think how awesome our bodies are.  How crazy is it that something so tiny delivers so much information?  Two microscopic objects decide whether a person is a man or woman, how tall they are, what they look like--everything!  I look at George... and he's such a big boy that it's funny to think that he started out itty bitty!  Our bodies are really something, huh?)

A Beautiful February Day!

You won't hear me say this often... so take note.  Today, I love Texas.  You definitely won't hear me say that in a few weeks when the weather gets unbearably hot.  Today was a nice day.  I was driving with my window down, with my little boy in the back seat, singing along with the radio.  The weather was a perfect 75 degrees and we were headed to the playground!  The playground wasn't as busy as I thought it would be.  We had a lot of fun!  George especially loved the slide!

And when he was done with the playground, he decided to take a walk out in the grass.  So, I finally have a video of him walking for everyone to see!

I can't believe that the weather is so perfect in February.  Definitely not what I grew up with!  It's so fun now that George is old enough to enjoy the playground!  I felt a little silly that I didn't know about the dress code (knee shorts and a pair of Toms).  Oh well, now I know!  And today was a good day.

March of Dimes March for Babies!

On a more serious note, I was watching this week's episode of Teen Mom 2 (this isn't the serious note...) and Chelsea was raising money with the March of Dimes March for Babies.  I got online and read more about it and decided that we will be walking the March for Babies on April 21!  I know, I know... this was the whole purpose of that story line in the episode.  I kind of feel like this is a "I saw Cady Heron wearing army pants and flip flops, so I bought army pants and flipflops" moment.

But regardless of where the inspiration for this walk came from, it is a subject that is near and dear to my heart!  I think that everyone close to us knows George's birth story.   He was born at 35 weeks.  He had a 10 day stay at the hospital.  I only stayed 2.  Leaving him there was probably the most difficult thing I've ever had to do in my life... and I had to do it over and over again for 8 days.  Hearing other people's stories about their premature babies breaks my heart... and it makes me realize that it could have been so much worse.  

Today, George is a happy, healthy (and husky) little boy.  He has come so far from the little baby that was hooked up to so many wires and tubes that I couldn't even hold him! I still don't get to hold him for very long... but that's because he's very busy crawling around like a mad man.

I really liked the statement at the bottom of the donations page on the March for Babies website, describing how your donation will be used.  It says:

Your gift will support March of Dimes research and programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives. And it will be used to bring comfort and information to families with a baby in newborn intensive care

George was Here

I was on the phone tonight while I was making dinner.  I didn't see all of this until after he was in bed.  I love that even when he is in bed, there are reminders of how funny he is all over the house!
