A Baby Picture!

I haven't posted a baby picture on here in a while... but I'm assuming that I'm also probably facebook friends with anyone who reads my blog.

This past weekend was so nice! The weather was perfect! On Friday, George and I met up with a playgroup at the park! We had a picnic lunch and enjoyed hanging out with some great ladies from church! Then, Friday night, we had a friend over for dinner, which was fun. His wife is out of town. We played bananagrams after dinner and I won for once!! I was so excited! I never beat Steve at word games!! (Or trivia.... so wish me luck in our Jeopardy calendar challenge this week. So far, we are tied!)

On Saturday, we walked to dinner. Yup, walked. Not far, but it was so nice to get some fresh air! We went to a new pizza buffet right near us. It was good, as far as pizza buffets go. If I must go to a buffet, I prefer it be my favorite food!

Sunday, we went to church, took a nap, and hung out with family. What a great weekend! It went by too fast... and now it's supposed to get cold again. Boo.

A Trip to the Store

I went to Target today. I'm always hesitant about going to this particular Target because I used to work there briefly... and I don't want to feel obligated to talk to people. In fact, on days when I want to just run in and run out, or not talk, I usually drive the extra 10 minutes to go to the next-closest store. Terrible, I know. Today wasn't bad. I ran into a manager that I really like who has a baby 2 months older than George. Then I ran into a manager that I'm surprised even remembered me. I passed her and she said, "HI! I didn't know you had a baby!!" We talked about George and she told me how cute he is... and then as we were walking away, she said, "I'll never forget you. I'll never forget the time I made you cry!"

I smiled and walked away... trying to remember what had happened. Then I told George, "WAIT A MINUTE! She didn't just make me cry! SHE LOCKED ME IN THE STORE BY MYSELF!!!" Yes, she did. I was closing Guest Services right around Christmas-time. It was a mess and taking me forever. She called for everyone to leave, but I was in the stock room sorting the trash from the broken and hazardous. My walkie didn't work back there. I went up to the front, grabbed my things, called Steve, and pushed on the door... it didn't open. I pushed again... nope. I walked out and said, "Hello??" It took me about 5 minutes to find someone working the over-night... and another minute to find someone who spoke English. The over-night manager all but accused me of locking myself in so that I could steal. I was so shaken that I talked to the HR manager and asked that the managers all make sure that the Guest Service person leaves with everyone else. I wasn't crying because I was hurt... I was crying because I was so mad.

Then I went to the deli where a lady said, "You look great for just having had a baby!!" I said, "Thanks!" And then I thought.... what if this wasn't my baby? What if I was just babysitting? That's a ballsy thing to say. But I did just have a baby... so it made me feel darn good about myself! Which is a huge step in the right direction after the worker at Whataburger asking me, "what are you having? When are you due?" a few days after George was born...

This is Not a Resolution.

My personal, non-resolution is to find new recipes. I could eat Shake'n'Bake every day for a month... but I think Steve might be getting sick of my go-to recipes. So far, I have made 2 new recipes. Wait--do cookies count? Make that 3 new recipes. The recipes I've tried have been soooo good (and so easy) that I thought I would share them:

Three-Cheese Chicken Penne Pasta Bake
- Makes enough that we each had seconds and left-overs made 3 lunches! Which is awesome, because it is one of those meals that makes for delicious left-overs!

Crispy Parmesan Chicken Breasts - It may look like Shake'n'Bake.... the directions may even sound like Shake'n'Bake... but this definitely isn't Shake'n'Bake! It's delicious! We ate spaghetti with it. Yum!

And I can't find the cookie recipe online... but it's the peanut butter oatmeal cookies in the Better Homes & Gardens cookbook. Everyone has that book, right?

Gotta run--I have a very sad baby calling for me!

"Um.. Just When You're Done..."

I'm getting way too into the Bachelor.
Good thing GG comes back next week!
But, poor Brad.
Ummmmm... this girl is nuts.
Do you think that Brad really finds it charming?
Or that the producers find it amusing?
Either way--she's scary crazy.
Like the way that she interrupted him on the group date?
"Umm.. just when you're done. When you're done."
And then just stood in the background tapping her fingers?
As she says about everyone else, she is "not for you."
Dump her, Brad.

Love This Booger!

Story time. I've been reading "The Happiest Baby on the Block." At one point, it said something about how right now, our baby cries when he needs something--he's tired, hungry, cold, wet, etc. The book says that right now, our baby won't cry to be "manipulative" and hasn't learned cause/effect (that crying makes us come to him).

WRONG. The book is wrong... or we may have the world's only manipulative newborn.

I made the mistake of putting the baby into bed with me in the mornings after Steve left for work. We would cuddle until I was ready to get out of bed. This was no big deal at first. Then my dad came to visit and held George every waking hour. This was also no big deal. Well, once my dad left, George still wanted to be held all the time... this was also no big deal until he decided that this was something that he didn't only want during the day--he wanted to be held at night, too. I would hold him until he fell asleep and then put him in his bassinet. Without fail, he will now cough, hack, and whimper until I pick him up. Well, the only way I can sleep is to let him sleep in bed with us. I'm afraid that I've created a bad situation for all involved. Every night, I say, "tonight is the night. He has to fall asleep eventually." And because it breaks my heart to hear him whimper, I pick him up within 7 minutes. This is going to be a hard habit to break.

He's lucky that he's so darn cute... because he sure is a booger!

Just to Clarify: I'm not complaining! I love snuggling with my baby! If that's what he likes and needs, we're happy to do it! We just think that it's funny that he has learned to work the system so early! He really does know just what to do to get us to rescue him from his bassinet!

The Things You Can Find...

Confession: I've never cleaned out my Facebook inbox... ever. I don't think I've ever even deleted a message in the 6.5 years that I've had Facebook. Well, now I have Facebook on my phone and it's telling me that I have 12 new messages, which I think is because there are at least 12 unread messages in my inbox.

So I'm cleaning them out and I found this:
2.26.06
FRIEND: So, club dues are coming up for the "girls who wish they could get with ______" club.

2.27.06
ME: Well, then it's a good thing I get paid this Friday.
It was a joke with a friend from Spanish class... he thought highly of himself, clearly (and I didn't, for the record). It still made me laugh. Oh, the things that can be found on Facebook.

Online Window Shopping

In some sort of fantasy world where I paid more than $20 for any one pair of shoes,
I would get these:

And these...

Size 8, if you're feeling generous.

Update!

George went to the doctor yesterday and now weighs......

9lbs 3oz

Which means that my little guy has gained 2.5lbs in 2.5 weeks!! He has now outgrown all of his newborn-sized onesies and anything newborn-sized with feet! Right this second, he is actually wearing a onesie that is a 3mo. size! It's a little big, but STILL!

Oh Boy (Part II)

Dear Bachelor Brad:

I didn't watch your last season as The Bach.* I have, however, heard your story. I know that you dumped both girls during the finale. I must tell you, even though the girls this season all seem to hate you for it... I actually respect you. Maybe if Jake should have followed in your footsteps.

Anyway, don't feel obligated to pick someone this time.

Carry On,

Kathleen

*(The Bach conflicts with GG. Right now, GG is on hiatus. I hate these stupid long winter breaks. In fact, I had this same issue last year at this time.)

1-11-11

Today is my due date. I'm so glad that I do not have to go through that again for a little while. Instead, today I get to cuddle with this guy.....
