Pinspired!

I love Pinterest! Maybe a little too much. Anyway, last night in a pinning frenzy, I found this picture:

Super-cute, right?? Well, I went to JoAnn's tonight because I've been wanting to make an upholstered headboard for our bed. That was a waste of time because I just couldn't find a fabric that I liked (and I forgot to take my pillow case). So I was just browsing and looked at the canvases. Little known fact: I like to paint every once in a while. Well, canvases are waaaaaaay too expensive at JoAnn's, so I went to Michael's (seriously--buy them at Michael's and if you hit it on a sale day, you'll save big bucks!) Well, canvases were super on sale and I got two 16"x20" canvases for $5.99! I didn't know what I wanted to do with them, but I just couldn't pass up that price! We've been needing something for our bedroom, and on the way home, I remembered the picture above. Well, we're a long way from being able to paint a wall like that without losing our security deposit... but I wondered how it would look on a canvas. Also, the song "When there's Love at Home" came into my mind.

I came home, bathed G, put him to bed and got out my paints (I happen to have paints that match our bedding because I've unsuccessfully tried to make artwork for that wall once before). This is what I came up with and I really like it. I can hardly wait to hang it on the wall along with some family pictures and a few other ideas that I have...

It's not perfect. Don't read it too closely or you will see that I skipped from verse 1 to verse 3... oh, and it ends with a cliffhanger. But really, once it's hanging on the wall, who will be able to tell?? The "LOVE" looks red, but it's really a reddish pink. Most importantly, it was fun... and it's something unique to hang on our bedroom wall. I can't wait to get everything up there! (Just in time to move, I'm sure...)

My Fast Baby!

George has officially been crawling for 2 weeks and he is getting fast! Today, I looked something up on the computer for about 10 seconds and then I was like, "where did he go??" Our living room isn't very big, but sitting on the couch, I couldn't see him! I looked over by the door and he wasn't there, either... and then I heard a whimper from under the table...

Boy, am I in trouble! He was under the table, getting into the diaper bag!

I'm Kinda a Chef...

Steve & I got caprese ravioli at Costco today. It looks really good and I can't wait to try them, but I wanted to make a garlic sauce to go with it. Having zero experience with making a garlic sauce, I decided to try a garlic sauce with spaghetti tonight so that I can practice before I make the yummy ravioli. So I made a garlic butter sauce tonight and it was delish. I adapted it from some recipe that I got from googling.
  • 1/4 c. olive oil
  • 4 cloves minced garlic (I always keep a jar of pre-minced garlic in the fridge.. it was about 2 tsp. of that)
  • 1 tsp. butter
  • 1/2 tsp. Italian dressing mix
  • Black pepper to taste
I sauteed the olive oil, garlic & butter on med. heat. Then I turned it to low heat and put in the Italian dressing mix and black pepper and let it simmer while my pasta was cooking. I mixed it with the pasta and topped it was parmesan. It was really garlic-y.... but I love garlic.

Free Stuff!

Hey, friends! I just wanted to pass along a great offer that I got in my email! Free nursing covers and slings!! All you pay is S&H (I know that for the slings, it's about $12 or $15 or something like that and I don't know what it is for the nursing covers). I don't mean to sound all commercially... I just want to help out all you other mommas!

I actually have both of these! The nursing cover has been one of my most-used baby items! Order the sling one size up from your pre-pregnancy size in case (like me) you don't lose the weight as quickly as you would have hoped...

Put it in your shopping cart and then use the promo code "DESTINATION" to get the discount!

25!

I had a birthday and it was a big one. I'm getting so old! I really don't feel that old, though!

I had a great day! Steve made breakfast and then we opened presents! We went to In-n-Out for lunch and just lounged for a few hours. Steve & I went to the temple and then after, we had cake! Steve made the cake! Who knew he was such a good baker?? The best thing about my birthday? I got to spend the entire day with my boys! This doesn't happen very often (maybe once a week), so this was a big treat! 25 has been good to me so far... but I really don't like this getting older thing!

Another Titanic Post...

I know that we have talked about Titanic before. It's on tv again tonight. I wish I knew earlier... I always catch the same part! It starts just after Jack draws Rose. I still usually watch the whole second half!

How do I get my husband to watch this movie?? He refuses... seriously downright refuses. Weird, because he loves history and I can usually get him to watch chick flicks. For some reason, he has vowed to never see Titanic and it's really frustrating!

When I was 11, I loved this movie because I loved Leo. My friends and I went to see it in the movie theater a million times! Now, I watch it because it's such a great movie! I wish Steve would break his 14 year commitment and watch this movie with me... any ideas??

32 States

One of my friends had a cool map on her blog and I thought, "hmm... how many states have I visited?" So, here's my map:

UPDATE: I lied. I looked at a map and I have been to Iowa. I guess it was just that memorable. Oops. I guess it's 33 states!

Today's Teens

So, by the time I was in middle school, I guess Home Economics wasn't a cool name anymore... so at Theodore Roosevelt Middle School, it was Today's Teens. I remember one semester we learned to sew. I don't remember anything about that. Another semester, we learned to cook. I don't remember much of that, either...

but tonight, I went all the way back to 1999 in my mind and made dinner that I learned in Mrs. Mendenhall's 8th grade Today's Teens class. I just really wanted pizza, but I had to get creative with what we had. Mrs. Mendenhall would be so proud!

It's gourmet, for sure. Pizza Toast! Here's my secret recipe:
  • 2 slices of bread
  • pizza sauce
  • mozzarella cheese
  • pepperoni (or topping of choice)
  1. put bread on a pizza stone or cookie sheet under broiler until toasty
  2. flip over
  3. spread pizza sauce, sprinkle cheese, put on pepperoni, sprinkle cheese
  4. put under broiler for about 1 minute or until cheese is melty and edges are toasty
You're welcome.

Need a Toilet?

We took a family drive the other day (it was supposed to be a trip to the library, but G fell asleep). Anyway, we saw this at the end of someone's driveway. In case you can't read it, it says, "For Sale: Slightly used toilet. $5 or best offer" I think it had a phone number, too. We had to take a picture of it because it was at the end of a cul de sac that was seriously in the middle of nowhere. Which means that this person is basically trying to sell a toilet to 2 other houses on his street. Seriously... the street looks like this (that little blue sign says "fire water source" and was a small drain in the ground and the toilet was behind the tree to the left):

So, if you're looking for a "slightly used" toilet for $5 (or best offer), let me know! I know where you can find one!

Want to see what's stuck in my head most of the time these days? Pretty catchy:

I do wonder how Mrs. Pteranodon explained Buddy to Mr. Pteranodon....
